it's nice to be nice

Quote: It's Nice to Be Nice, And It Doesn't Cost a Penny // A Style Caddy

I was watching an old interview with Rory McIlroy, and he mentioned the above quote as something his dad always said to him.

It's nice to be nice, and it doesn't cost a penny.

New York City has a bad reputation for not being the nicest city in the US. I don't think that's completely true, but there are times when I'm just going about my day that I see it. Fights on the crosstown bus between a passenger and the driver, refusing to give up a seat for a pregnant woman on the subway, being rude to the barista at the coffee shop, not holding the door open for the person behind you.. I'm not saying that I've never done some of those things would be a lie. I'm human. I'm not perfect. I'm not always that nice. But ever since hearing this quote, I've tried really hard to change that.

The simplest and smallest of things can be perceived as nice. And that small nice thing can affect other parts of your life - friendships, relationships, work. I think sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life we can forget that.

I hope this a happy little reminder for you and that you have a great weekend!

Note: I couldn't find this quote anywhere online so I don't know if this is an old Irish saying or if the elder Mr. McIlroy came up with this. If he did, apologies for not giving him credit!
