what's in my makeup bag?

Christmas is just a few days away! I'm super excited, but I'm also gearing up for a really fun trip to Club Med Punta Cana on Monday. I'll be splitting my time the next two days between wrapping presents and packing my new suitcase.

Since I'll be in much warmer weather next week and while ringing in the new year, I wanted to make sure that I packed my makeup bag full of items to keep me bronzed and glowy. To be honest, I've taken a lot less items than in previous years so my makeup case is actually filled with a combination of makeup and skincare products. The full list of products {with links} can be found on my YouTube channel!

plan with me: classic christmas

Christmas Day is just a few sleeps away!

I've been wanting to share more planner related content to show how I stay organized so expect to see this a bit more here. I'll be sharing my exact methods in the new year, but for now, you can watch my latest Plan With Me video to see just how I decorated for this week.

Get ready, it's an explosion of classic Christmas colors and lots of glitter!

festive christmas cookies

I love to bake, but Christmastime is my favorite time to whip up lots of goodies. There's something about the holiday season that really gets me in the baking mood. Everything from cookies to cakes, cinnamon buns to baked donuts - I love infusing all of it with festive flavors of the season.

This year though, I really want to try my hand at recipes I've never attempted before. Of course, I'll still be making cinnamon buns on Christmas morning {from scratch and a family tradition!}, but I've been researching lots of different things to bake in the days leading up to Christmas. These five caught my eye and look absolutely delicious so I just had to share them with you!

black friday sale shopping christmas holidays cyber week cyber monday

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I spent most of the day making apple pie that weighed well over 10 pounds. My arms are sore from trying to roll out that pie dough. Literally.

But now it's Friday, and you know that I am most definitely taking advantage of all the sales. holiday decor haul

I don't usually post videos on Tuesday, but it's the holiday season so I felt like there's no harm in sharing!

I've made a few purchases lately in terms of holiday home decor and wanted to show what I bought. The best part? Everything is so affordable and is sure to fit your budget!

plan with me: thanksgiving

I posted my first Plan With Me video today, and I'm so excited! I've been watching Plan With Me videos for months and months and finally decided to try my hand at it. I'm not a very quick planner {it takes me over an hour usually} so you can only imagine how much empty air I had to cut out. But for my first time trying this out, I consider this very successful!

Since Thanksgiving is on Thursday and I have a really short work week, I decided to try a new way of planning. And surprise! I like it a lot and think I might be using this format more often.

I've listed all of the shops mentioned in the video on my YouTube channel. And if you would like to see more of my planner spreads, make sure to follow me on my planner Instagram!

gift guide: for the cooks & bakers

christmas holidays wish list gift guide for cook chefs bakers kitchen hostess host

I've been an avid baker and a sometimes cook for as long as I can remember. In fact, one of my favorite Christmas presents ever is the All-Clad cookware set my parents gave me when I graduated from college. And nowadays, I never complain when I get a gift card to Williams-Sonoma.

So this gift guide is tailored for those who, like me, find spending time in the kitchen really relaxing. Whether they're an at-home cook or the next great pasty chef, there's something here for them.

At-home chef: the prettiest salt & pepper mill, the cookbook on my wish list, a Nespresso to keep you going.

Don't forget to check out all of the other gift guides from this week! Plus, I have even more gift ideas in The Holiday Shop tab that I update daily. I'll be back next week with more holiday content.

Have a great weekend!

new makeup & skincare

Sephora had their VIB Rouge/VIB sale in early November, and you know I couldn't pass that up. I bought a lot of things that I'd used up, some Christmas gifts, and skincare products I've been wanting to try. I got everything on my list so I consider this year's sale a success!

I would love to know if you purchases anything during the Sephora sale! For a full list of what I purchased, make sure to visit my YouTube channel and please subscribe!

gift guide: beauty gifts

holidays christmas wish list beauty gift guide gifts for beauty makeup

Today's beauty gift guide is definitely my second favorite one to put together. We all know that I love make up {I have a new Sephora haul video up today!} so this was just a bit too easy for me. We all know at least one person who is a total beauty fanatic so this is tailored just for them.

The holidays and Christmastime is the perfect time to give them that extravagant and luxury item they've had their eye one for awhile. It's that one thing on their wish list that they're not sure if they really need or if they want to spend the money, so why not treat them? Some of the items in today's gift guide are ones that I personally love, and others are ones that I may or may not get for myself this year.

Personal favorites: the best body lotion, the most festive makeup pouch, my go-to nail polish.

gift guide: for her

christmas holidays wish list gift guide gifts for her

Today's gift guide is pretty jam packed. I won't lie though, this is probably my favorite one to put together. It's also the easiest since I just think of things I would want to buy for my family and friends and go from there. In fact, I would mind getting a few of these things myself! ;]

Whenever I shop for others, I like to buy the things they need or something that they wouldn't buy for themselves. A mix of practical gifts {something that she would use every day} and luxury ones {like a new handbag that will last her for years} is such a nice treat. So whether you're shopping for your mom, your sister, your best friend, or yourself, I think there's something here for you!

gift guide: for him

gift guide christmas holidays gift for him gifts for men wishlist gifts for boys

Shopping for guys is always the hardest. Is it just me? No matter the occasion or the holiday, I fret over what to buy. I always want that present will 'wow' everyone, but I've come to realize that basics and tried-and-trues are the best way to go. Plus, sticking with the basics means that you know that they'll actually use them instead of seeing them tucked away on a shelf somewhere.

It's also really great to get that one item that you know they've had their eye on but just don't want to buy for themselves. It's a nice treat for them on Christmas day! Add in a few fun and quirky gifts that will make them chuckle and you're all set!

Favorite basics: a new scarf, warm gloves, a cozy fleece pullover, a layering henley tee.

Fun gifts: Old Course Scene belt, sneakers for any outfit, a quirky bottle opener.

gift guide: my favorite things

christmas holidays wishlist gift guide favorite things gifts for her gifts for women gifts for girls

Shopping season is upon us, friends! Christmas is a little over a month away so I thought it was time to start sharing this year's holiday gift guides. To be completely transparent, I had planned on sharing a makeup haul today but didn't have time to film over the weekend. So instead, I'm sharing my favorite things, all of which I think would make great gifts!

My cold-weather must-haves: texting gloves, a cozy blanket, warm slippers {these made me think of Tinkerbell!}, and a fun mug for tea and hot chocolate.

My daily essentials: the best hydrating skincare products, a neutral eyeshadow palette, a pretty ring that goes with any outfit.

Other fun things: the best curling iron, a mixer for making delicious cookies, a candle that will remind you of a sunny vacation.

I'll be sharing a new gift guide every day for the next week and a half so make sure to check back every day!

Happy Monday!

thanksgiving home decor

holidays thanksgiving home decor nordstrom williams-sonoma pumpkin turkey pottery barn

It's amazing how quickly Thanksgiving is approaching! The days are just flying by, but I never seem to mind during this time of year. I love how festive everything is, which means that I have too many decorations for my own good. And for someone who doesn't have a real dining table, I dream up tablescapes and settings too often.

I wanted to share some of my favorite Thanksgiving home decor pieces from my go-to spots - Nordstrom, Williams-Sonoma, and Target. You'll have your place ready for Turkey Day in no time at all! Williams-Sonoma started their Friends & Family Event today so with the code FRIENDS, you get 20% off your entire purchase + free shipping.

OH! And did you see the new Holiday Shop page? Christmas isn't that far off, and it's never too early to start shopping! I'll be adding more and sharing my gift guides soon!

holiday sticker haul

Two things that I love: planning and the holiday season. If you don't know, I've been using a Happy Planner since July and absolutely love it! I wish I had known what they were sooner because I for sure would have started them much earlier than this past summer. And because I love writing about and posting videos of things that I love to read and watch, I wanted to share a holiday Etsy sticker haul! Honestly, I have so many holiday and Christmas kits to use and not enough weeks to use them.

Make sure to subscribe to my channel so that you know when I post the second part of this haul!

sephora vib sale recommendations & wish list!

Today is the day! It's the first day of the Sephora VIB Rouge Sale! Makeup and beauty products of any kind rarely ever go on sale, so even though it's just 20% off you should definitely be taking advantage of this discount.

I wanted to share my recommendations of what to get and what's on my wish list. My tips for this sale are to purchase the things that you use the most and start your holiday shopping. If you reach for it every day, then you probably go through it a lot and now is the time to stock up and buy a back up or two. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get any new fun holiday items {you should} but put those go-tos in your cart first!

Use the code 20ROUGE to shop the VIB Rouge sale starts November 4th until November 7th. For the VIB sale, use the code 20VIB to shop between November 11th and November 14th.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS!

october favorites

November is here! Happy November!

A new month = new monthly favorites. Makeup, food, fashion, Gilmore Girls... I covered all the important things. Plus, I made a decision about how to go about videos for the rest of the year!

From now til the end of the year, I'll be posting twice a week! Every Monday and Thursday {minus Thanksgiving}, I'll have more hauls, more planner videos, more favorites. I have so many things I wanted to film and realized I couldn't fit it in just uploading once a week. I'll still be posting here, more often too since the holidays are coming. So make sure to visit here and subscribe to my YouTube channel so that you don't miss a thing!

fall/winter fashion: velvet everything

I'm a sucker for fall and winter trends, and one that I particularly love every single year is velvet. I love velvet anything and everything. You name it, I love it. Velvet loafers, velvet dresses, velvet blazers - I want it all!

I just bought this velvet wrap skirt that I think is in the most perfect color for this time of year and the holiday season! It got me thinking that I needed to share some of the other velveteen things that have caught my eye.

Fall & Winter Fashion Trends: Velvet // A Style Caddy

I think most people associate this trend as being something more appropriate for dressier occasions, and while I agree, I think it's a great casual every day item, too. A pair of velvet sneakers with dark skinny jeans and a comfy is a great option for a casual Friday work outfit. I also love the look of an all black outfit with a bright velvet choker. Or a velvet dress with a flannel or chambray shirt! Love it.

Happy Monday friends!

heart to heart

Me and my grandma on her birthday in 1990

I rarely share very personal things on my blog or YouTube, but today I would like to talk to you about my grandma.

My grandma was quite the lady. She was born in the Philippines in the 1920s and moved to America with her husband, my grandpa, and my mom in the early 1980s. She worked as a pharmacist and throughout my life always told me the good and not-so-good things about any prescriptions. She was funny and laughed at all my jokes. She told me when she thought I look pretty; I always knew the comment was coming just by the way she smiled. She was the best cook, and to this day, I still compare all Filipino food to hers.

She was so upset when my grandpa passed away in 2013. In fact, I think it was the first time I'd ever seen her cry. She spent the next 13 years without him because she was too strong to do anything else. And that's why it was such a surprise when she was diagnosed with lung cancer last fall.

My grandma? Lung cancer? She never smoked or even had a sip of alcohol a day in her life! I still remember that the day she got the diagnosis, I had it in my mind that she was just going to take some medicine to make the pain go away, not get life-changing news.

I spent the rest of 2015 in NJ, my apartment in the city pretty much forgotten. We all tried to carry on with life as if nothing was really different, minus a really scary Stage 4 diagnosis reminder that was always in the back of our minds. For several weeks, she was doing so well. She was happy on her birthday, still laughed at all of my jokes, and kept trying to feed me more rice than I could ever eat. But then, as expected, things took a turn in November. She passed away on a cloudy Saturday just after Thanksgiving.

Today would have been my grandma's 91st birthday. It's very strange to think that it's been nearly a full year without her. In the beginning, the sad days seemed to outnumber the happy ones. But then life goes on and everything goes back to the way it was. I can look back fondly on the years I spent with my grandma and know that they were happy ones.

makeup & nail polish declutter

Over the weekend, I took on the daunting task of decluttering all of my make up and nail polish. I let go of a ton of things that I just wasn't using, and I'm so happy about it! It was honestly such a relief. I highly suggest doing this since you're most likely going to find things that you haven't used or things that have expired. I promise it's super helpful and that you'll be so glad to have cleared up some space in your makeup collection.

... Especially since that means more space for new makeup goodies ;]

what to wear to work

Image via Memorandum

When I moved to NJ, I noticed that my work wardrobe changed almost immediately. Part of it, I'm sure, is because I'm a lot happier living here. And I think the other half is that I actually wanted to look nice when I walked into my office. I'm not saying that I looked like a slob previously, but I definitely wasn't putting in the same amount of effort.

And ever since that started, I'm constantly looking for work-appropriate clothing when I'm shopping. I work in a pretty casual office so there are some things that I can definitely get away with that definitely would not be OK in a corporate office. I have a few rules and tips that I wanted to share with you that I think apply to any office or work place.

1. If your shoe makes a sound when you walk, don't wear it. Aka, it's never acceptable to wear any style or height of flip flops to work.

2. A top that shows cleavage should be worn for weekends and nights out. Really low-cut tops or v-necks are really inappropriate for desk life. If you really want to wear it, I highly suggest wearing it with a cami underneath.

3. If the top is so sheer that you can see your bra, rule #2 applies here. Again, wearing a cami underneath makes it much more acceptable to wear. Or save it for happy hour.

4. Don't wear a skirt or dress that you're worried is too short. I've learned that if I'm worried that it's too short, it most likely is. Remember that rule in Catholic school about whether or not your skirt reached the end of your fingertips? Yeah, that applies for the work place, too.

5. Your shirt or blouse needs to cover your behind if you're wearing leggings. I'm a firm believer that you can make leggings work as pants. But that's only if your top covers your bum. If not, leave those leggings for the gym.

6. Cover up those bra straps! Please, please, please don't let your bra straps show. If you don't have a strapless bra to wear or can't tuck them in, wear a cardigan or a button-up. Or don't wear that outfit at all and save it for another day.

7. If worse comes to worse, it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. And you know what? Being overdressed and looking polished often means that more people will take you seriously.

There aren't really any hard set rules since those who work in a conservative setting or creative space will have standards that differ. These just happen to be my top 7 rules that I always keep in mind when shopping and getting dressed in the morning. And since we're talking about shopping, I also wanted to share my top five favorite places to buy work clothing!

fall & winter vests

Vests are one of my staple pieces for the fall and winter seasons. Not only are they great for an added layer of warmth in colder weather, but they're so stylish nowadays. I own quite a few already but am always looking for more to add to my closet. I can't help it. It's like I have an addiction to vests. Quilted, faux fur, fleece... I want them all and I want lots of them!

Here are some of my must-haves for this fall and winter!

I love the J. Crew Excursion vests. The quilting adds such a classic touch, and it pairs well with everything. I purchased the plush fleece vest just before going to Minnesota and have been wearing it non-stop. A long plaid vest might not immediately seem like a staple item to you, but I promise it is! I purchased something very similar last season, and it's one of my go-tos for work. I wear mine with simple dresses, jeans and booties, and skirts with knee-high boots. It's much easier to style than you think!

If you're thinking about scooping up a J. Crew vest {or really anything from J. Crew}, make sure to purchase it today since there's free shipping and 30% off sale the ends tonight!

Happy Monday!

minnesota & the ryder cup!

I got back from Minnesota on Monday night and immediately started working on this video. I was just so excited to share another travel video that I jumped right into it! There were so many clips {literally over an hour's worth} that it was hard to edit it into just a five minute montage, but I did it!

I hope you all enjoy this little peek into my life! And get ready to see a whole lot of red, white, and blue...

ryder cup m&m cookies

Ryder Cup M&M Cookies // A Style Caddy

If you follow me on Snapchat {sheriann_snaps} and Instagram, then you'll know that I'm at the Ryder Cup! And I'm so incredibly excited to be here! We left on Monday night and have going to the golf course every day to just walk around and see Team USA and Team Europe practice a bit before the real action starts today.

If you don't know what the Ryder Cup is, let me give you some information. It's one of two {the other being the President's Cup} team competitions in golf and happens every two years. Team USA will face off against Team Europe {consisting of players from Great Britain, Ireland, and continental Europe} in three days of matches. Today and tomorrow there will be four matches in the morning and four in the afternoon. Sunday consists of just singles matches, and that's where we get to see some real action. Team Europe has won three of the last four Ryder Cups, so it's about time we bring it home for the USA!

I baked up a batch of really simple M&M cookies last weekend before we left to help get into the spirit of things. Of course, you don't have to specifically make them with any event in mind. The sugar cookie dough itself is really delicious so you could just throw in M&Ms and call it day! In fact, I'm already thinking these would make a really great go-to Christmas cookie...

Ryder Cup M&M Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
5 ounces M&Ms

Directions:
1. Cream together the butter and sugars in a mixer. Then, add in the eggs and vanilla extract. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure that everything is incorporated.
2. Add in the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Mix together on low until combined.
3. Chill the dough for at least two hours.
4. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
5. Scoop out a teaspoon amount of dough and roll it between your hands to form a ball. Only place 6-9 cookies per sheet because these will spread a lot.
6. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges. If they look under-done, let them sit on the baking sheet for another 5-6 minutes and they'll be perfect!
7. After about a minute out of the oven, press your M&Ms into the top of the cookie just slightly. Press hard enough to have them in the dough but not all the way through the bottom of the cookie.
8. After 5 minutes of cooling on the cookie sheet, move them to a cooling rack and ENJOY!

september favorites!

It's officially fall! And it's almost the end of September. You know what that means... It's time for another monthly favorites video! This month I have quite the mix of food, lifestyle, and beauty things. Part of that is because I've been trying out a bunch of new food since my hospital visit {an un-favorite of the month} and because I'm keen on trying to incorporate more than just beauty things in my monthly favorites videos.

Make sure to check back here tomorrow for a super fun and tasty recipe! ;]

fall reading list

To be quite honest, I haven't been so good at diving into my reading list this year. I'm usually so good at reading a ton of books, but for some reason, I just haven't been able to get into it. I think a part of it is because I'm no longer commuting via public transportation to and from work. I used to spend every morning and night reading on the subway or bus when I was still in New York City. Now that I drive, I typically listen to the radio or podcasts since I've never been into audio books.

I'm actually leaving later on today and heading to Minnesota with my parents, and I think it's the perfect time to hop back on the reading band wagon! I'm hoping to read a lot while I'm away so I bought several books for my Kindle last night. I thought I would share my list with you, and then you can let me know if you've read any of them or if you have books that I should add!

I'm going to start off with The Girl On The Train, a book I've read already and loved, since the movie is coming out next week and go from there...

The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins // Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris // The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens // All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda // Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty // What She Knew by Gilly Macmillian // The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena // The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

fall fashion under $100

The weather is still quite warm here in the NJ, but I'm already looking forward to anything and everything fall fashion. I recently purchased this off-the-shoulder sweater dress in a beautiful olive color and can't wait to wear it in colder temperatures.

And while I was I shopping around for that, I found some other great things that would be fun additions to your closet and makeup drawer. The best part? They're all under $100! Great style doesn't have to come with a high price tag. There are so many affordable good quality pieces out there that will still have you looking stylish throughout the season.

The first day of fall is just days away! I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am. Autumn is my favorite season for just about everything - the fashion, the makeup, the weather, the food. And while it's not quite time to break out the big sweaters and riding boots, it's certainly never too early to get dig into the seasonal food.

I am not a pumpkin fan at all, but I love just about anything apple. I've shared some really delicious recipes in the past for cinnamon sugar apple doughnuts, baked apple cider doughnuts, and Milky Way apple blondies. And as much as I love those and already have plans to bake those soon, I've always looking for more apple recipes. I've found five that I think sound so perfect and tasty for the season that you {and me!} need to make immediately!

sephora & ulta beauty haul

I've been trying really hard to cut down on the makeup I own, but sometimes I just can't help myself. A brand new Ulta store opened up near me and I just couldn't pass up heading in to see what it! And since I was already in the area, I drove over {literally across the street} to the mall to see what was new in Sephora. I decided to share everything I bought in a little haul video for you guys!

You can get the full list of items on my YouTube channel so make sure to head over there and subscribe!

august favorites

Happy September friends!

Can you believe that it's September? The year is flying by... And I'm so excited! I love fall and winter and the holiday season so I'm happy to soon be rid of the summer weather.

While we wait for the first day of fall to arrive, I'm sharing all the things I loved, sort of loved, and didn't love in the month of August. A full list of everything mentioned in my newest video is on my YouTube channel!

etsy planner sticker haul

I don't typically talk about things like this on this blog, but I have always been someone who has used a planner. It's probably something that I learned from high school - how using a planner can really keep you organized. I know that a lot of people have moved on to digital calendars, but I'm still a tried-and-true planner user. Throughout college, I used a planner from Target or Lilly Pulitzer. After college, I tried Kate Spade and Lilly Pulitzer. Currently, I use a Happy Planner. I've been really pleased {trying not to use the word happy here} with my Happy Planner so far and have started using stickers to help decorate and keep me organized.

Did you know that there is a whole planner community out there? Because I was not aware of how large it was until I started using my own Happy Planner this year. I'd watched plenty of planner videos last summer on YouTube, but am I wrong to think that it wasn't that big of a phenomenon yet? I've purchased a bunch of planner stickers and filmed a little haul for all of you who are interested!

If you are part of this planner community, please let me know! And let me know if you have any favorite Etsy sticker shops that I should check out!

nordstrom anniversary sale haul

As promised {and the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post, I promise!}, here's my haul video from the #NSale. I talk about everything I bought and anything that I've returned because there are a few! I've already mentioned what I purchased, but I talk about everything a bit more in the video.

A full list of products with sale prices is on YouTube. If anything is sold out, I give some similar options too!

july favorites

I did it! I actually have another video for all of you, and it has me feeling super accomplished. I haven't filmed a monthly favorites in quite awhile so this is more like a round-up of things I've been loving and using since April. The full list of products is on the YouTube page.

Note: I realized after I uploaded this video that I forgot to include a picture of the couch I mentioned, but I do include a link to the website!

nordstrom anniversary sale picks {what i bought}

You're probably sick of hearing about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but I had to share this post. I'm still waiting for all my purchases to come in, but for now, I'll let you shop all the things that I loved enough to put in my closet. I'll probably film a video that will go up next week so that you can see what they actually look like and my thoughts on everything. For now, this will have to do.

Though I'm officially on a No Buy since my closet has everything I think I need for the next two seasons, I'd still love to hear what you bought during the #NSale!

beauty haul! {ulta, house of lashes, and cvs}

I know that everyone is talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but I wanted to break it up just a bit to show you some new beauty and makeup things I've acquired over the past month or so. I made some purchases and Ulta and House of Lashes and had the boxes sitting unopened for nearly a month. Since I haven't filmed a video in quite some time, I decided a little unboxing/makeup haul would be the perfect way to get back into the swing of things.

A full list of products is on my YouTube page!

nordstrom anniversary sale picks {vol. 1}

Nordstrom has released a little sneak peak for those of us without a Nordstrom card. I went through it all and picked my favorites. Some of these have even made it to my own wish list!

I'll have another one next week when I can finally shop the sale. Hopefully there will be lots of goodies still available!
