documentaries you need to watch

Summer is always prime documentary watching time for me. The shows I watch are on summer break so I spend most nights browsing Netflix and HBO, in hopes that something will catch my eye. I have watched my fair share of documentaries and am always recommending them to people. And now I'm sharing them with you!

documentaries, bright lights, HBO, Netflix, a style caddy

1. Bright Lights {HBO}: To be completely honest, I didn't know much of Debbie Reynolds' career or her as a person. It was so interesting to see this mother-daughter duo in action and how they interact with one another. Their dynamic is so interesting because they seem so different but clearly loved each other so much. Warning, I teared up a little because it's wonderful but also very bittersweet.

documentaries, going clear, scientology, HBO, Netflix, a style caddy

2. Going Clear {HBO}: Scientology has always been so interesting to me because it seems a bit mysterious, but at the same time... not mysterious at all. Does that make sense? Probably not. But I say that because people who have left the church have been so outspoken about its corruption and other going-ons that I feel like there's been so much exposure. Former members of the church talk about its history, why they joined, and all the things that led to their departure. So, so interesting.

documentaries, hot girls wanted turned on, HBO, Netflix,a style caddy

3. Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On {Netflix}: Rashida Jones mentioned that she was a producer on the show and that confirmed that I needed to see it {I love her}. This is actually a series so there are multiple episodes you'll be able to catch. This is all about the porn industry, everything from dating apps to cam girls and recruiting girls for porn to the lives of porn actors. It's very NSFW and also very eye opening.

documentaries, mommy dead and dearest, HBO, Netflix,a style caddy

4. Mommy Dead and Dearest {HBO}: I was so looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. It's crazy to think that this actually happened to someone and happened for so long. And fun fact - I went to high school with the director of this documentary.

documentaries, there's something wrong with aunt Diane, HBO, Netflix, a style caddy

5. There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane {HBO}: Do you recall a news story about a car that was driving in the wrong way on a highway in upstate New York? If so, this is it. And you'll learn about the family's backstory and the aftermath of the deadly car crash and what happened to these families.

documentaries, the keepers, HBO, Netflix, a style caddy

6. The Keepers {Netflix}: I was super excited for this documentary series to come out that I watched it all in two days. I was born and raised Catholic and attended Catholic school until I went to college, but stories like this always get to me. It's an unsolved crime, but the story itself is what draws you in and makes you question lots of things.

If you have any documentaries that you think I need to watch, please let me know! I'm always looking for new ones.
